Ott, the world is a better place because of you. I can not say this enough and need to repeat it again here. You have touched countless lives and you continue to live on inside each and everyone of us. I know that we have all learned from your eloquent words, your adventures, your laughter, your vision of right and wrong - your thoughts on justice, humanity & the meaning of life.

You were a citizen of the world, in EVERY sense of the word. I have ever met anyone who had a presence like yours - it was undeniable & unforgettable. There is not a corner of this world that has not been touched by your charm, your wisdom and your infectious smile.

I miss you brother Otto. I miss the good times, the conversations, the laughter, the coast-to-coast road trips, the lessons, the Canyon journeys, the workplace high jinx and the helping hand you were always there to provide. We always affectionately called you ‘Ten Bears’ because you had the presence of - & snored as loud as - 10 bears. I know that we will all keep your vision & spirit close to our hearts and we will honor your memory again this February in your other home – The Canyon.

I personally will do everything I can to pay tribute to your incredible life and what you stood for. Anthony is still to young to understand, but someday he will come to know who you were - and I can only hope that he will be WISE enough to understand what you were all about & your vision for a better & and more just world.

I now ask everyone one last time that we stop to think about those conversations that I know we all shared with you. Conversations regarding a meaningful life, justice, global understanding, fighting poverty, educating the less fortunate, environmental sustainability & most importantly - PURPOSE. Because I truly believe the most meaningful way to honor your life is to not only remember those conversations - but to actually take the next step and fulfill those dreams with the scarce & limited time we all have left.

Lita that was such a wonderful post and so neat to hear more about "young Otto". It's been great meeting and talking to so many people who knew him so long before I did.
Now I don't know if it's me but I think I see Otto's Echo in the ashes as your father set him free on Twin Peaks. I think he's ready to run...

It has been agonizing living at the bottom of the world and not being around to help Otto in his battle for life. I always knew the extent of his illness, but I never thought we would lose our brother so quickly. When Dex called me in NZ on Thursday night, I was in shock. I am going to miss my great friend. I’m one of the thousands of people who had the privilege of meeting Otto during his forays around the globe. He was one of the most inspiring person's I have ever met, and he touched the hearts of so many people.
I have been grieving for the last two days but it is now time for me to celebrate the life of my mate, as I know his spirit will live on in each of our memories.
I met Otto in Goreme (Turkey) in October 1997. He was on the biggest adventure of his life, having backpacked around Africa, Nepal and the Middle East. We had different agendas but managed to travel together through Israel and spent week together in Dahab. That was enough for Otto and I to cement a friendship that lasted even though we never lived on the same continent. I traveled a lot over the next ten years so any chance I had to party with OPS I was there. Snow boarding in Tahoe and Mammoth, parties in SF, LA and NY, not to mention a crazy 24 hours in Vegas! On the flip side the big man often stayed with me when he passed through London. I have met some amazing people through Otto. Special love goes out to Dex, Kimmy and Teresa.
I was really looking forward to Otto and Dex finally making it to New Zealand to experience one of the most beautiful countries of them all. I have a beautiful piece of land on the beach here, and I’m planting trees on the 1st of June in memory of my “brother from a different mother”. I’ll extend the invitation to any of Otto’s friends: if you are heading to NZ you will always have a place to stay. Email: baracus999@yahoo.co.uk.
Finally, I am not in SF today, but I am sending my love to all of you who are at Twin Peaks. I was planning to visit him in August, and I will.
Time to stop grieving and celebrate his life!
Peace and Love

My heart was so sad not to be able to make it on Wednesday. I had promised to help a friend in need, Athena, produce a yoga & poetry fundraising event that night. However a magical thing happened - right in the middle of the event she said “I'm going to put on a song now and just let the words move you in whatever way feels right.” Now, she didn’t know Otto or a thing about him so imagine my disbelief when out of all the millions of songs she could have chosen, she played the Michael Franti Spearhead song ‘Every Single Soul.’ And so over the speakers flowed the words "I know every single soul is a poem written on the back of God's hand." And I realized that the song was more than a freaky coincidence given Otto’s relationship with Michael Franti - it Otto's way of saying 'hi' and that it was okay I wasn't with everyone else that night.

I believe it was also his way of telling me not to worry about the one regret I had with him… not getting to know him better. After meeting 7 years ago I said to myself “What an amazing guy - make sure you get to know him better.” But the current of life carried me along and although we’d see each other at parties and occasionally meet with a small group for lunch while he worked at Microsoft, we never grew beyond acquaintances. I remained an “Admirer From Afar” for his generosity, leadership, and wit. By sending me that message - he said “It’s okay - there’ll be another opportunity, but in the meantime… don’t screw it up with the folks still on Earth. Admire up close -before it’s too late.” Thanks Otto for that parting gift. You will be missed.

Touched by your kindness.
Inspired by your generosity.
Uplifted by your joy.
Awed by the gentle force of your presence.
Grateful to have known you.
Priviliged to have called you friend.
Profoundly saddened by your passing.
Numbed at the depth of the loss.
Comforted knowing you were surrounded by love and light and goodness.
Comforted knowing your spirit and energy live on forever.
Rest peacefully, friend.
